The "Millennial Vegan: Tips for Navigating Relationships, Wellness, and Everyday Life as a Young Animal Advocate" book is enlightening, and soothed my soul. I loved the calming and easy to read detailed as well as informative writing. I couldn't put the book down.

This is such a necessary book. We live in a very nonvegan world so knowing how to navigate that world is critical. There are many aspects of this text I really appreciated. New and young vegans often don't know how to respond to common objections so wonderful responses to these objections are included. The book is packed full of citations and reveals a strong appreciation for science. I greatly valued the way in which the definition of veganism was illuminated with avenues for how to best protect it. Also, the book does a great job teaching the importance of assertive communication and how we can protect ourselves from the resistance to veganism from family, friends, and society at large. It delves into how to deal with anger we might feel living vegan in such a violent, nonvegan world and how to make sense of it all. Mr. Taft also cautions against misanthropic thinking and provides great insight into how to effectively advocate for the earthlings with whom we share this planet. I really liked the way Mr. Taft broached the discussion of veganism and masculinity. On a very practical level, the book also includes shopping suggestions.I would recommend this book to anyone, not just youth, because it provides insights for how other people might be experiencing their vegan life differently from us.

“Millennials,” not unlike vegans, are often maligned and belittled for reasons that don’t seem to be based on much evidence. Young people may be our best chance at seeing a vegan world actually come to fruition. And yet, it’s often difficult to maneuver the shift to veganism for the young in our current pre-vegan world, and in particular for those still living under their parents’ roof. This is even more problematic when the family does not support their veganism. In this brief guide, Dr. Casey Taft touches on several points of concern for younger folks who wish to live a vegan lifestyle, or for those who are already vegan and struggling with practical issues that may arise. In his signature supportive and positive style, Taft shines a light on many trouble spots that young vegans are likely to come upon, including, among others:~Tips for Communicating with Others about Veganism~Psychological Abuse and Bullying~Vegan Dating~Misanthropy and Veganism~Eating Disorders and Veganism~Shopping Suggestions~Coping with AngerA couple of chapters deal with topics covered in Casey’s first vegan-themed book, Motivational Methods for Vegan Advocacy: A Clinical Psychology Perspective, namely, “Assertive Communication” and “Trauma in Animal Advocacy.”Taft’s expertise is in the field of psychology, communication, domestic violence, and trauma therapy. Although touched upon in the book, for more detail on shopping, diet, and nutrition, young readers will need to explore other books, sites, and so on, and these resources are plentiful. While there are quite a few books, websites, social media sites, etc. that are focused on helping people learn about being vegan, I’m not aware of anything, in particular, that is written for the Millennial generation. This book fills that gap nicely and I hope it is helpful in assisting many young people to become and remain thriving vegans for life!

Millennial Vegan has, so far, helped me realize the challenges I have had and will continue to have. I have done mistakes before, especially on dealing with non-vegan friends and loved ones. Reading this has struck me and opened my eyes that I had been doing it all wrong. It's very helpful, easy to comprehend and gives me the courage to speak out about and make people lean towards veganism in the most effective manner.

This book came at such a good time for me. I'm on the older end of millennials but I'm recently divorced so it's like I'm starting over in some ways. What caught my attention right off was that it's written in such a straightforward manner. I really appreciate that. I don't like advice books where the author tries to coddle you. I feel like I'm being talked down to and I hate it. This book is absolutely not like that. I felt like I was being spoken to as an equal.Another great thing is that it covers so many topics. Every time I would think, "but what about...?" it would be coveded almost immediately after.I also love how it continually mentions intersectionality. That's important to me and that's why I've already recommended this book to multiple vegans I know on Facebook.I learned a lot, and I felt empowered and comforted at the same time. It's rare for that to happen for me. I'm already planning on reading it again to take more notes.I recommend it to any vegan, absolutely. I got it in ebook format but I'm considering buying a hard copy to share with my family. I think it'll help them understand me and where I'm coming from.

This book provides an excellent introduction to a range of issues we experience as new vegans. The focus of the book is on millennials but the information contained within is going to be helpful for everyone; whether you’re not vegan but want to understand more about veganism, a new vegan finding your way, or have been vegan for a while, this book presents an opportunity to consider a variety of relevant issues. Alongside a wide ranging discussion, of particular interest to me was the section on vegan advocacy, an area which has been discussed a great deal in relation to the mainstream animal movement, and in this book Casey Taft provides some great advice to help people advocate in line with their values.

Amazon.com Review

For many readers, Jack Ryan embodies the essence of the modern American hero. Morally centered, disciplined, humble yet powerful, Ryan (and his onscreen incarnations in Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford) has made Tom Clancy one of the most popular writers in the world. But as Clancy has constructed the Ryan mythology, he has quietly established Ryan's shadow double, John Clark. Appearing in The Cardinal of the Kremlin, Clear and Present Danger, and Without Remorse, Clark has many of Jack Ryan's most appealing traits, but he is also a darker figure embodying the more paranoid sensibilities of the late '90s. As is made clear from the opening pages of Rainbow Six, ex-Navy SEAL Clark and his colleagues believe violent, deadly force to be the best deterrent for terrorism. Clark (a.k.a. Rainbow Six) has left the CIA to create an England-based organization code-named "Rainbow." Its mission: deploy an elite squad of American operatives combined with handpicked British, French, and German agents to stop terrorism in its tracks. Rainbow's emergence could not be more timely: in quick succession, the force diffuses three attempted terrorist actions. But Clark becomes suspicious when Russian agents suddenly show interest in Rainbow's work. Rainbow Six appeals on all the levels that Clancy fans could hope for. The Rainbow operatives, from Navy SEALs to German mountain-leader school graduates, are rendered to inspire with their physical and mental prowess. The book is infatuated with the latest gadgets for scrambling, transmitting, and decoding secrets. And, in a carefully woven narrative that simultaneously traces the Rainbow team, a former KGB agent named Popov, the Australian Olympic security team, and a sinister group of American scientists, Clancy artfully reveals the mystery of "Shiva" at the center of the novel. How does Clark measure up against Jack Ryan? He may be the perfect hero for a world with hidden villains. --Patrick O'Kelley

From Publishers Weekly

Two years ago, Executive Orders, which thrust Jack Ryan into the Oval Office, raised the bar for its immensely popular author. This first Clancy hardcover since then, though a ripping read, matches its predecessor neither in complexity nor intensity nor even, at 752 pages, length, despite a strong premise and some world-class action sequences. Instead of everyman Ryan, its lead is the more shadowed John Clark, the ex-Navy SEAL vigilante of Without Remorse who has appeared in several Ryan adventures. Clark now heads Rainbow Six, an international special-ops anti-terrorist strike force?and, despite the novelty of the conceit, that's a problem, as the profusion of protagonists, though sharply drawn (including, most notably, "Ding" Chavez, Clark's longtime protege), deprives the book of the sort of strong central character that has given Clancy's previous novels such heart. The story opens vigorously if arbitrarily, with an attempted airline hijacking foiled by Clark and Chavez, who happen to be on the plane. After that action sequence, the duo and others train at Rainbow Headquarters outside London, then leap into the fray against terrorists who have seized a bank in Bern, Switzerland. And so the pattern of the narrative is set: action sequence, interlude, action sequence, interlude, etc., giving it the structure and pace of a computer game. A major subplot involving bioterrorism that evolves into an overarching plotline syncopates that pattern, though Clancy's choice of environmentalists as his prime villains will strike some readers as odd. All of Clancy's fans, however, will revel in the writer's continued mastery at action writing; Rainbow's engagements, which occupy the bulk of the novel, are immensely suspenseful, breathtaking combos of expertly detailed combat and primal emotion. While not Clancy's best, then, his 10th hardcover will catapult to the top of bestseller lists?and for good reason. Two million first printing; $1 million ad/promo; simultaneous Random Audio and Red Storm Entertainment computer game; author tour. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

One of my favorite Tom Clancy books. The Audible edition is one that I listen to just about once every year. Michael Prichard is the narrator for this and many of the other Tom Clancy books in this series. He does a great job with the voices for the different characters. I'm happy to have this book (both Kindle & Audible edition) in my collection. The counter terrorist strike force story is well thought out and the action holds your attention.

The bad guys in the novel are "tree-huggers"--people willing to kill billions of humans--absurd premise for a story. I couldn't help but resent the ridiculous portrayal of environmentalists, but otherwise the story is interesting and the action is exciting. Some parts are boring--when characters second guess themselves over and over. Movies made from his books leave out the boring parts--one of the rare instances in which I prefer the movies to the books.

Wonderful book!! This book tells the story of John Clark and Ding Chavez and their starting up of an international anti-terrorist unit. Instead of their usual role in the normal Jack Ryan books, they are now the main characters. The story is about the missions they take on and the way they accomplish them with the additional concurrent story of an conspiracy of biological attack on all of humanity. The story of well put together. There are no gaps and the story line flows smoothly. But this is not the only story that has John Clark (then John Kelly) as the main character. He first appears in "Without Remorse", telling his back story. That book even has Jack Ryan's father, a police officer, in it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that book also since it tells who he is\was and how he became a C.I.A. officer.

I love the way Tom Clancy weaves his stories. He has a knack for making you see the story from all sides and experience what the characters are going through. If I had to critique one thing it would be how unrealistic some of the dialogue is between ding and his wife, an MD, regarding killing. I realize that the intent isn't to glorify it but it just struck me as forced and unrealistic that a woman who married a career soldier, who then went on to work for the CIA, would be that naive. Beyond that I have to say it's a fantastic read..

Good story but it meanders through pages of unnecessary dialog. The author could have added more missions by the Six group. A good example of what I mean is a book like Lone Survivor or the Reaper. Clearly the content is different but I love the way the story is told in the latter books I mention. Well written, full of relevant action packed (and sometimes humorous) details, and fast paced. This book could have been so much better.

Nice story line BUT I somehow got the impression that someone else wrote the ending of this book. The last 50 pages seemed noticeably different. And who ever wrote it ... used His own style of speaking for the characters - at times forgetting to change from one character to another! Clark seemed out of character at the end of the book! Minor annoyances: 'Kay instead of Okay; putters instead of Computers - adding 'eh' at the end of sentences. Unrealistic exclamations: Clark upon explaining to a high ranking officer that the terrorists planned to kill more than 99% of the Worlds population responded with "you're kidding, eh". At least the spelling was not bad in this book!

This well articulated story is centered on John Clark, and Ding Chavez as a new worldwide anti-terrorism force is headquartered in England, with John Clark as its leader. The group is beyond a black operation. This story details 4 major terrorist attacks, three of which are engineered by an ex KGB Colonel at the behest of a rich American business man/scientist. This is a great read!

It's extremely violent, but my 12-year-old could not put it down. Since the intended audience is a bit older than that, I didn't knock it down a star.
