Interesting read but I wanted more about what De Kock had to say rather than the constant intermittent blurbs about what the author felt about random spaces in time. In fact the author's input as to her feelings were often distracting and took away from what I was hoping to get from the book. Glad I read it though.

Wonderful and touching story and well written.

I was born at the same time as the author, however as a middle class White, English speaking citizen who was politically aware and supported and worked for the official opposition - the Progressive Party and then the Democratic Party, I was completely in the dark as to the full horror of what the government was perpetrating in the name of all the Whites. This book is so interesting and so full of wisdom. It tries to make some sense of the times we lived through and the beliefs which led some people to such evil. A very good read, but remember, there were some of us who did not support Apartheid, but fought for a changed political system within the law and the moral code.

Yes, there are far too many pictures of the author. The editor or someone must have used pics to reach a page minimum (giving her the benefit of the doubt).Okay, with that out of the way, let's move on to the recipes. Wow!, nothing short of amazing! Excellent! Simple recipes, yet there is layered flavor and wow, super yummy. I have made several of the recipes and all are keepers.One thing I would recommend, on the Chicken Cacciatore...the finished product has a lot of liquid. We decided to make white (basmati) rice to go with it to help soak up some of the extra liquid. You could pour some off, but it is soooo good, I really wouldn't recommend doing so. Yes, I realize the rice isn't 'Italian', but the book is an Americanized version of Italian, so it goes just fine if you ask me!If you are like me, you want good food, without spending hours in the kitchen. The last thing I want to do after working 10 hours, is cook for 2 hours! This is a GREAT cookbook for those who want go food without sacrificing your entire day/evening cooking it! This is my new 'go to' book for dinner! You won't be disappointed.Book quality and layout are important to me. This book is a hardcover that will lay flat (with some help) when opened. The paper is nice thick and glossy and the pictures are good quality. The book is bound and stitched to last with repeated use.It you can make it past someones love affair with the author (I sure hope they got that date), then this one is a keeper!

Love this cook book has so many recipes that are easy and fast to make .This is Giada De Laurentiis first Book so its been out for along time however she is one of my favorite cooks on Food Network and I am always searching for new recipes for my family and this was just what I was looking for easy ,inexpensive,and very little prep work. This book has 125 Recipes and even has recipes for deserts that are very tasty and easy to follow directions.most of the ingredients we already have in our pantry Be sure to have olive oil and lemons a lot of her recipes call for those two ..One of my favorites was the Lemon Spaghetti so good and I had every thing at home to make it so no trip to the store needed.This is a perfect book for everyone even beginner cooks.

My cookbook by Giada De Laurentis "Everyday Italian" is all it was advertised to be. Lot's of my favorite Food Network chef's recipes, some of her best IMO. Great pictures, simple instructions and wonderful basic Italian dishes that even a novice cook like me could prepare. Price was absolutely affordable and with Amazon Prime, no shipping! I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

This is a great cookbook. Giada's marinara sauce is terrific. We also love her lasagna, which uses 2 kinds of sauce and spinach. I especially like this book because she gives lots of variations on a basic recipe. For example, olives can be added to the marinara sauce, which makes it even more delicious. Dieters...stay away from this cookbook. Nothing about it is low calorie! The Everyday Entree chapter is a great one to use if you want to make something delicious in a short amount of time.

I just got this about a week ago and have already made the marinara sauce, the bechamel sauce, the classic lasagna, the chicken piccata, and the parmesan chicken. Everything has turned out fabulous.Don't be afraid to buy this if you have no cooking experience. Giada does a very good job writing easy to follow directions. After watching Giada De Laurentiis on the Food Channel, I prepared her Ziti with asparagus, smoked mozzarella, and prosciutto dish and fell in love. Both as a main course (with the pasta) and a side dish this is one of my favorite meals. The combination of the smoked mozzarella cheese and asparagus is a mouth watering delight.After I received her cookbook, I promptly made the chicken parmesan. Wow. It's not that over breaded glop of fried chicken found at the local mediocre Italian restaurant. This is a simple, yet tasty chicken, cheese and marinara dish that even my husband likes.The Chicken Cacciatore was also easy to prepare and so tasty we couldn't wait to eat the leftovers the next day. I did add some pasta to the leftovers because there was more sauce than chicken and this rounded out the meal.Our 2nd absolute favorite is the Braciola. A flank steak rolled up with bread crumbs, herbs and cheese inside. This was a dish I would never have attempted, but after reading through the receipe it sounded so easy that I figured what the heck. I was not disappointed. The leftovers were even better after the spices had permeated the meat.I cannot wait to try the roasted chicken with balsamic vinaigrette.My only compliant, the photos seem to be added to fill the pages and often do not have much to do with the adjoining receipe.

This is a short book, but is packed full of great information on mini pigs. The author in this small book is able to cover so much from the different “breeds” and their origins to common mini pig myths all the way to the correct foods to feed them. The author does a great job at organizing this book so that it is an easy read, and easy to take in all the information given without it becoming boring or confusing, but on this same topic I will say that you will find the author mentioning the same information multiple times in different sections in the book and this does drag the flow of the information a little, especially when it is what most would consider common knowledge. Some of the information is the same thing that most everyone is told before getting any animal, but I did give the author an allowance for this since sometimes the simplest of items can be the most damaging if not followed.In this book you are given facts about how the new popularity of this animal has caused many to be abused or abandoned since most people purchasing these animals are not prepared properly to deal with a mini pig, and instead of learning they just neglect or give it up, this to me makes the book worth reading alone, but the author is able to provide you with the pros and cons, as well as a list of way to be able to lessen the cons. One item I really loved about this book was in the training section, the author goes beyond that of most books like this and does not just tell you, that you should train them to do this or that, but actually gives you some pointers on how to actually do that. One prime example covered is teaching your mini pig to sit, the author tells how to do it simply by getting the mini pigs attention with a treat by placing it in front of its snout and once you have its attention slowly lift it upward, the mini pigs head will follow until soon its rear touches the ground, and then you can associate that position with the command. I also really like how the author referred pig poo as “pigberries” this made me laugh…So in conclusion, this is a short quick read that is pack full of fun an useful information that is presented and organized perfectly to make it easy to comprehend and absorb. It is also a book that has a reason for being written that many should read even if you are not looking to buy a mini pig, just to have this knowledge banked in case it comes up later in life or in the life of someone you know. Some of the knowledge is also usable with other animals.

If you are considering adding a mini pig to your family, or just plain curious about these adorable little pigs I suggest reading this book, Mini Pigs / Teacup Pigs All You Need To Know: The Essential Guide by Harriet Fields. As well as dispelling many mistruths and false stereotypical myths that our culture has adopted over the years this comprehensive guide answered a lot of questions for me. The most prominent for me is the pigs mislabeling – mini, teacup, micro, miniature, and pocket pigs. They are not specific breeds of pigs that are smaller than the large pigs used in farming. Also, the notion that micro pigs are tiny. Yes, micro pigs are smaller than pigs usually kept on farms but this does not mean that they are TINY. I am glad that I read this informative book.I have been enlightened in all areas of the little pig world. Once again I recommend this well written and comprehensive guidebook to all those considering adding a cute little addition to their family herd. This book can remove all the uncertainties and surprises that come with this fifteen-year companion. As for the book itself, I really like the cover art illustration and highly informative content. Although, I must mention this book is plagued with typographical errors. Not misspellings but the interjection of wrong words. Therefore, I feel that proofing and editing work are poor. Don’t get me wrong this book is a great wealth of information and is worthy of reading.

I’ve always had an interest in all types of animals and have devoured every book about them that I could find to read. I don’t care what kind they are, whether they are reptiles, mammals or birds, I want to read all about them. When I saw the delightful cover of Ms. Harriet Fields’ book, Mini Pigs/Teacup Pigs: All You Need to Know, I knew immediately that I wanted to read it. I’ve often debated getting a mini pig so I was quite excited to read this book. I wish that everyone who is trying to make the same decision as I was about getting one as a pet would read Ms. Fields’ informative book. If I had, my decision would have been much easier and quicker to make than it has been. Not because Ms. Fields tries to steer the reader in any one direction but because she is extremely forthright in her information and she lets you decide for yourself after reading all of the information that she provides within these pages. There are fifteen chapters in the book that cover everything from choosing the breed of mini pig you’d like to own to behaviour and training of the pig to a list of things your pig can or cannot eat. There’s even a section about teaching your pig how to do tricks. Who wouldn’t want to teach their little guy or gal to wave? It’s written in a very easy to read style that provides a lot of information without being boring. The chapters are broken up into quick and easy sections that make them easy to get through and to find your place easily should you need to put the book down for a bit. For a book that contains so much information, it is fairly short, having two-hundred and thirty-four pages. I do wish that there had been more pictures. The ones that are in the book showed up really well in digital format but it’s always fun to have lots of pictures when reading about animals. After reading this book, it is quite obvious that Ms. Fields loves mini pigs and cares greatly for their well-being. She never comes across as being “preachy” about the subject but she does make it clear that owning a pig is in no way like owning a cat or a dog. (Although she does say that cats and pigs can be great friends which I thought was really cool.) This is what I loved about this book. Not only does she extol all of the wonderful reasons that there are to own a mini pig, she also gives the reasons not to as well. This book should be read by anyone wanting to buy a mini-pig or someone who already owns one and wants to learn how to provide them with the best home possible.

With The Great Boer War, Farwell does an admirable job of painting a picture of life on the Veld and the mindset and character of its citizens. I found this book to be very informative and entertaining. Farwell doesn't bog down in the details of the major engagements and battles, yet, his concise writing style gives you a sense of the battles, the men involved, the social expectations upon them and their heroism. Most importantly, he covers the other aspects of the war--- the victims on both sides, the political forces at play and how the peace led to the nation of South Africa. I walked away with a deeper respect for the Boers, the British and the forces that have been at play in that region of the world for the last 150 years. Excellent job, Mr. Farewell!

I have been reading numerous books about periods in history that I didn't know much about. The Anglo-Boer War was one of them. I find this a fascinating time in pre-WWI history and this book details it very well. A lot of similarities to the US Revolution, but with a different outcome. It is amazing how much trouble to Boer gave the British and their overwhelming military superiority. The last half of the war is very sad as families become relocated in camps and many die. I highly recommend this book!

Detailed description of the lamentable war with the Boers, taking the history of South Africa to their separation from the British commonwealth and the gaining of independence, which is what the war was all about, but more than a century late!The author divides the war into two halves, the first, set piece battles between military units, the second, the guerilla behaviour of the commandos who were a defeated army but for years unwilling to accept defeat while all around them was devastated.Particularly interesting are the descriptions of the social consequences, including the concentration camps where were housed the dependants, women and children, after the British chose to lay wate the countryside to suppress guerilla activity, one can't help but compare this with occupying forces in later wars.On the whole an excellent, well written, book and a mine of reliable documented information.

This remarkable book describes in exhaustive detail the ineptitude and incompetance, the cruelty and plain greed, of the English when confronted by a foe as resourceful and determined as the Afrikaans shepherds and farmers, in their resolve to not lose their country, come what may. These were no ordinary Colonials. And abundant British supplies and disciplined manpower were greatly wasted in their poorly administered splendor, often and inexplicably in the wrong hands. The book is well written, a masterpiece of investigative and historical journalism, worth the time and minutiae of a thorough study.

A very clear, sympathetic and witty explanation of a quite complex war which seems to have had an outcome markedly different to the conclusions of most histories. Who realised that, although the British forced their surrender, the Boers won the outcome of the war, or that, as a result of their political power within South Africa, they have now lost their homeland?

A great read about a little known conflict for most. Farwell does an outstanding job of providing an interesting narrative, historical content, and insights into the character of the leaders involved. The reader comes away with a better understanding of how the present day world was formed. It also drives home the point that armed conflicts aren't always the best way to resolve issues. According to Farwell, the Boer War was costly to women and children due to their incarceration and the consequences of their care (diseases.) At the end, the Transvaal Region and Free Orange State were returned to a condition similar to before the war, albeit under British rule. In my opinion, it is likely this could have been accomplished through negotiation with less of an impact on innocent people.This is a lesson that could be learned and applied in today's world! (Syria?)

Farwell is one of my favorite authors and I have re-read this book, The Great Boer War so much that I had to buy another copy. The author is a thorough historian with an excellent ability to make his work very readable. He brings the second Boer War into proper perspective in the study of African continental studies and how war played an important part in shaping fortunes and politics in that part of the world. A rousing up-close story of valor and stupidity, unbridled geed and self-sacrifice.

I wanted to learn about the leadership on both asides. Also the human interest stories about the sieges. Most of all I wanted to learn about Jan Smuts, ever since I saw him give Gandhi cab fare home in the film of that name. He was mentioned by Churchill about both WW I and WW I. .

Any time I can find something Black Widow related I jump at the chance to share it with her because there are so few really strong female role models.Reading this book made me want to sign every petition possible or protest outside Marvel Studios until Whedon makes a Black Widow movie. Her fans deserve it. She has such a rich history there is plenty of material to work with not to mention DC is coming out with a female centered movie (Wonder Woman, remember her?) so why can’t Marvel create one? Johansson has ALREADY established the character in multiple movies.These essays show her character’s intelligence, high skill level, strength but best of all her humanity because she wasn’t enhanced with special powers, magic or high tech suits of armor. She’s just a badass who through hard work, and some probable psych trauma with deep need of therapy, found a way to fight back through the injustices of the world. Something we could very much use in reality right now. She shows that women can be strong, intelligent and deserving of a place in this male dominated world.I like how each of the essays examined a different aspect of her character so you get this incredible depth of understanding you don’t normally see in the movies or comics individually. Not to mention they show how the perception of who she is and her place in the Marvel world has changed with time and social constructs.This is the perfect book to give Black Widow fans and women in general to remind us we have everything we need to be smart and strong inside of us.

The planner' s cover is beautiful & looks like the picture. However the material isn't water resistant, it stains easy, and marks easily. The planner is also pretty thick, which makes it more difficult to carry around. There is no holidays labeled inside the planner, you'll have to do that yourself. For the price of this planner I would say overall it was a good purchase.

I love this planner. It is so nice to have a long range plannerand to have checklist spots for each day. The one thing I really dislike is the binding. I really wish it had a ring binding so it could be open and lay flat.

This was the perfect planner for me! It has daily and monthly sections as well as a checklist next to each day. Very helpful for nursing school! Recommended it to all my classmates!

Easy enough for my 1st grader to read. This series "Barbie spy squad" thing is taking over my kids' lives. Barbie is now working as a spy and solving the worlds problems and also wearing ball gowns. Dress up clothes and Barbie dolls also for sale in stores

While I never got into Geronimo Stilton books the way I have the Thea Stilton ones I love the concept of Geronimo saving the future by protecting the past. Reading the seven graphic novels makes me want to read more about the pirate cats in the regular Geronimo books.Geronimo Stilton is the editor of the Rodents Gazette. Like Clark Kent and Peter Parker, working on a newspaper has caused Geronimo the scared and bit accident prone mouse into the most unexpected adventures. In this story case we have the famous scientist Professor Volt in his secret portable lab introducing his friend Geronimo to his Speedrat time machine and his new machine to track the pirate cats of Catatonia when they take a trip through time in order to change the past in favor of cat kind. As the title of the book shows the pirates cats have put on their mouse masks disguise and joined the crew of Christopher Columbus with plans on stealing the ship and taking credit for America's discovery for themselves. While Emperor Catadone the third is the ruler it is his daughter Tersilla who is the true brains of the team and orders everyone including her father around. Getting jobs on the same ship as Christopher himself is sailing on Geronimo, his sister Thea, nephew Ben, jokester cousin Trap and friend Pandora search for the pirate cats to unmask and foil their plans. Like the normal Geronimo Stilton books the graphic novels are full of historical information and this book as a wonderful preview for book 2 to hook one into continuing picking up this series.

I bought this for my girls because we LOVE the original Geronimo Stilton series and the Thea Stilton series. But The Discovery of America contained some scattered phrases that we do not use in our home. For example, "dummies," "idiots," "shut up," and the like. Nothing more than that, really, but enough that we stopped reading after 20 pages. Not everyone may parent this way, but I am aware that many 6 year olds haven't attained the discretion required when using those words. And once exposed, they may wield them against siblings, classmates or adults. I wonder if PapercutZ uses a different editor when translating these books from Italian and holds different standards than the other series? Sadly, I will not be buying any other graphic novels from PapercutZ for this reason.

Love Geronimo Stilton. These comic books are awesome because they are fun for kids and adults to read and have some history in them too.

My six year old son loves the Geronimo Stilton series and we have many of the books. When I ordered this one, I didn't realize it was designed very differently, much like a comic book. My little guy isn't quite ready for this and prefers the chapter books. It does come in a nice hardback format and seems well put together. I'm sure it won't be long until he appreciates this style of book...so we'll just hang on to it until then.

This geronimo stilton book is coolll. It's like a comic book!!!! Geronimo and his friends go into a time machine and go with Christopher Columbus to go to America. It's really awesome and cool! :) I recommend this book to anyone who likes geronimo stilton. Happy reading.

A friend of mine told me about this book and I was immediately taken with the story. I love the core point of personal integrity, sincere effort, and honesty in the story. I think that the way the story twists and makes its point at the end is powerful and will stick with its target audience. Heck, it will stick with me. But then I was already taken with those values a half century ago. When I see so many young people willing to cheat to “get ahead” and the idea that the ends justify the means or that getting your agenda implemented “by any means necessary” seems justified, well, I am horrified. This book makes the opposite and more traditional point. I think the traditional value has a longer term importance where the short term getting it all now seems attractive to some in the present, it yields a toxic fruit.The illustrations for the story are also beautiful and add to the interest children will have in reading the book. This is a story an adult can read with a child many times without wanting to beat their head against the wall, unlike so many children’s books that quickly become torture to read over and over and over again.I bought several copies for my grandkids and will keep buying them as new grandkids come along. LOVE THIS BOOK! My student were exposed to this charming tale when I taught second grade. It was in one of our texts. Now the grandkids' school chose it for their Character Trait on Integrity. Beautiful, charming, meaningful story of a little boy faced with a choice on whether to be honest or not, in the face of competition. Beautiful art. My two (ages 8 and 6) love it; I love it. Cute story, great art, engaging story, great moral to the story.

I heard about this beautiful story in another book called, Golden, by Joni Hilton. I love children's picture storybooks so I was curious and checked it out. I love it's wonderful message of honesty and integrity. It's a parable for what is truly important in life! I not only bought the kindle version for myself, I bought a hardcover copy to give as a gift. It is marketed for ages 4-8, but it's also for those who are young at heart, and anyone who loves books!Note: The kindle version of any picture book is never going to be as nice as the hardcover copy. But it's still nice to have because it's always with you, and easy to share from an iPad. This a delightfully easy story to read, the word to picture ration is wonderful even for your most impatient listener, the pictures are interesting to look at with many little rewards for the interested viewer. The story is the gem, giving a great opportunity to discuss what honesty and integrity and honor are. Loved this story, I will be looking to get copies for gifts. This is a darling book with an unexpected ending. Kids love it! I am a school counselor and I read it to classes in my lesson on integrity. Even the teachers were intrigued and surprised! Very touching! Great lesson!

I read children’s books to adolescence and I feel like they get a lot out of it that way. This book is perfect for teaching honesty and integrity. I seriously love this book!

I’m sad that I ordered a new book, but I got it and it was completely folded in half and all the pages are creased. Should add something stiff to the package to keep it flat in the mail.

Wonderful story with a twist ending that the children don't see coming. After this story we make hand flowers. (Students trace their hands several times to create the petals).
