Insultingly basic; provides no more information on diagnosis and treatment than any given patient is likely to receive from their physician, or indeed a cursory investigation using google or bing. Contains virtually no information for patients diagnosed with Stage IV, and seems to serve more as an advertisement for the associated clinic than an actual resource manual for the afflicted, their family, friends or caregivers. It is sparse and short, and devotes far too much of what little it contains to self-congratulatory nonsense on behalf of the writer's clinic. It uses atypical diagnostic categories, and is absolutely lousy with, again, what I would consider to be attempts at advertisement rather than advisement.I strongly recommend the latest edition of Dr. Susan Love's book, or a copy of the Mayo Clinic's publication even though it is out of date. None of these provide enough information for the patient diagnosed with Stage IV, rarer forms of the disease or for those readers who are most strongly scientifically inclined and medically experienced but Love's book eapecially will be a bastion of information covering the basic essentials up through a resonable degee of technicality. In addition both Love's book and the Mayo's are far better resources for the various psychological and interpersonal ramifications of diagnosis, both for the patient and their carers. They are fundamental resources I would recommend in a heartbeat to 99% of people finding their lives intimately invaded by that spectre, breast cancer. Better resources are desperately needed for those enduring late stage diagnosis, however no matter the stage you will still derive *some* benefit from both Love's book and the Mayo Clinic's.It is worth noting as well that this "manual" is produced to insultingly poor standards - multiple pages were totally illegible; it is printed in the cheapest fashion possible with no quality control, to the extent that you may be deprived of what little value it may have potentially provided you; the sole page devoted to my mother's (not uncommon) form of the disease was so badly misprinted that virtually nothing could be discerned. It was far from the only page in totally illegible condition.I have rarely felt so angry at a book; but to write and publish such low quality insubstantial rubbish as this and charge actual bloody money for it seems to me to cross the line into predation against people made vulnerable by the terror of recent diagnosis.

This book is clear, informative and comprehensive of the many Qs a new cancer patient will ask. Dr. Link is insightful, intelligent and although clearly a skilled oncologist, writes from a human and intuitive standpoint, making what is a scary diagnosis an easier journey. It describes each kind of breast cancer, different treatment options, nutrition, exercise and the things you should be asking your team. We have recommended this book a few times. It is unfortunate that so many are afflicted with breast cancer, but at least there s a book like this for those newly diagnosed.

In this book, Dr. Link covers everything a new patient needs to know about the science of breast cancer, including breast cancer types and the appropriate treatments for each. The book is extremely educational and provides the knowledge a patient needs to achieve optimal care working with their medical team. The information provided is based on scientific studies and research. The 6th edition includes the most recent developments in breast cancer care. I highly recommended this book. A cancer diagnosis is devastating, but an earlier version of this book (16 years ago) gave me the knowledge I needed to forge the best possible course of treatment with my physicians. Making informed decisions is key to getting the most positive outcomes. Also, the book led me to its author, and I was fortunate that Dr. Link became my oncologist. The 6th edition presents the state of the art in cancer treatment in concise, accessible, and well written prose. As a survivor, I’m naturally interested in current cancer research and treatment. I have given previous editions of this book to newly diagnosed friends and acquaintances. I will continue recommending this new cutting-edge edition.

The content is great. Love the recipes and stories. Don't like the book itself...too stiff and binding is too tight, won't lay open in fact, forced to hold open with both hands just to read! Pages are thick, shiny and just not made like you want a cookbook that you actually plan to use! Ordered both her cookbooks together from Amazon but would probably not have bought them had I saw them in a book store.

this is a down home everyday cook book. I love every thing that I have prepared from this book . As a matter of fact I have already picked out the next two books that these wonderful ladies have written. I agree that there is no extras that you do not have in your home....mainly salt and pepper , everyday things not new spices or things that you will never use again. If you love down home cooking you will love this cook book.

My wife asked for this cookbook, and it is wonderful. These recipes are all excellent. I do enjoy watching many of the cooking shows, however I'd never eat the foods that they prepare (yes, I'm a simple eater). In this book, ALL of the foods look delicious, and I'd love to try them. The first one that my wife made for this year's family Thanksgiving Dinner was the cheesecake. Oh, my Lord! It was delicious, and loved by everyone. Can't wait for my wife to make other recipes from the book.

Sorry, but I've tried a few recipes from this book, and none were especially good. This last one, the pineapple upside down cake, was like the third strike, third out. It's the worst pineapple upside down cake I've ever made, dry cake, light on the good caramelly stuff; I should have known better when I read the recipe. Oh, well, didn't need the calories anyway. This book's going into my "donate" pile. It's a PRETTY book, I'll give it that.

I really like this cookbook. It isn't strange, weird recipes. It's full of good, "down home" recipes that are just what you want to have when you want to have something good. Trisha Yearwood is funny, too, so her asides are entertaining. I'm very pleased with this purchase and expect to use this cookbook often. It's a nice size with great photos, too; not gigantic and heavy. I'd say it's all "just right."

Have watched Trisha's cooking show on TV and began to notice that if you printed recipes from the online source that the recipes had been altered slightly "to improve consistency". I realized that I really wanted Trisha's REAL family recipes... So I decided to go to the source herself and bought her book!! It's just filled with really really good old fashioned home style family recipes that are easy to make and full of flavor. In general the book is a 'good read' also! I just loved the little personal notes Trisha and her family have added telling you about the recipe and the helpful little 'tips' included too.

We faithfully watch Trisha's show on Saturday morning.was looking at cookbooks and decided to try this one. I have not been disappointed. She might be from the frat state of Georgia but It brought many memories of my parents and grandparents and their receipes and traditions here in Southwest Mississippi! I have cooked the black bean lasagna and it was a hit. Now I am going to cook some Georgia barbecue. Great cookbook!

Great cookbook and I enjoy watching Trisha Yearwood's cooking show on the Food Network. Many of the recipes she makes on the show are in this book. I have been looking for a sugared pecan recipe for years and finally found it in this cookbook. Love her casseroles too.

As one who grew up un a similarly religiously affected area, although different religion, and only a Great Lake shore away, I totally get where she is coming from. Although my experience with gay boyfriends started later in life, I love them all the same. Even though I found much of my different from the norm, while still being straight, self prior to the true gay boyfriend beginnings I have had a much greater appreciation for all things since their inception in my world.This wonderfully written, quick read puts things into words that I hadn't realized needed specific definitions/categories/examples in written form until now. It also makes me terribly miss some of my dear dear friends who have faded from my life due to a multitude of reasonsPlease take the time to read this heartfelt work. It is well worth your time & will hopefully enrich your life. Either by reconnecting you with things and people missing from your day today or allowing you to see inside another world apart from your norm.Thank You Ever So Much Wednesday Martin! I look forward to reading your other writings. You reminded me of friends who altered my life in profound ways. For that I will be forever grateful.(FYI - this was read on an older Kindle, so I was unable to see the illustrations. That will be remedied later today. Oh boy, did I identify with this story. I was the girl with the gay boyfriends, I made all the same mistakes, and I came out of the experience with a much better sense of self than many of my friends who never hung out with gay men. Why? Because I felt seen. I felt listened to. Straight boys never ever made me feel that way. With them I was supposed to not be the smart one, not be the one who had something to say.  The experience taught me which men were worth cultivating and which weren't, and as a result I have come to know a lot of great straight men.So as I listened to Martin read her short story I found myself nodding and smiling. Oh yeah, I would think, I so get that. If you were the girl with the gay boyfriends, you'll probably love this story too. And if you weren't... I don't know how you'll feel about it. Maybe you'll feel as if you missed something (IMO, you did, but that's just me.) Or maybe you'll feel uneasy, as if that's not the way things ought to be. (If so, that's kind of sad. Again, just in my opinion.) Either way, the story is short and charming, and I think it's well worth your time and consideration.

**This review is for the audiobook on Audible.**Boyfriends of Dorothy, written and narrated by Wednesday Martin is Book 2 in The Real Thing collection. I wanted to love it. I just didn't, unfortunately. Like the first book in this series, I found it to be a bit boring and pointless, though the author does a good job as narrator. The ending was good and made me smile, but I found the rest of the book to be negative, which makes for a difficult listen. Perhaps her pessimism was meant to be humorous, but for me, it was a bit of a turn-off. I feel bad because those who read the book found it to be very well-written and gave it a high rating (based on the reviews from Amazon). Only one person who posted a review, besides myself, listened to it, and we both gave it the same rating. I like the length and the theme of the collection as a whole, but this one just didn't do it for me. I still plan to move on to Book 3 because I'm curious in hearing what the next author adds to this collection. Thank you for reading my review.

The story is about a young girl befriending a gay guy and his pals. I think author’s message is that the gay guys can make the good friends for the girls and enrich their lives in a way that the other girls and boys rarely do. I agree with the message but I did not find anything original or moving in the story. I listened to audio book and I liked narrator’s (who is also an author) relaxed and soothing voice. It is a slow moving story where nothing much is happening and all potential emotional dramas are smoothed down. But it is engaging enough for listening to it for half an hour. People with more reflective personalities may like this book more than I did.

The narrative begins as a compelling exposé on the insidious effect puritanical religion has on the psyche but, disappointingly, succumbs to a repetitive drove on why homosexual men are superior to to their heterosexual counterparts. Ignoring its lackluster and unfulfilling conclusion, this short-story beautifully reduces high-minded social criticism to palatable bites without loosing nuance. As much as I admire the author's talent, which is clearly evident in this work, I feel as though we would come to a point of contention on a cornerstone of my personal moral philosophy. That is that I believe it is the impetus of the individual to make peace with their identity rather than to demand that society accept them. But, what more should I expect from someone whose formative years were oft-tainted by the groupthink-morality of rigid conservatism?

I was one of those scoundrels who obtained the hardbound set of Burnham's many years ago by joining the Astronomy Book Club for $3.95. I have never lived down the guilt for having done so. Did I contribute to RB's demise? Am I partly to blame that he spent his last days in abject poverty, selling pictures of cats in the park? Does it do any good now that I've purchased all three volumes again in the Kindle version, and for about the same amount it would have cost me in the 1980's had I purchased it at full price? Alas! My blood money given to Amazon doesn't make me feel any less guilty.Having said that, however, Burnham's is surprisingly well-suited for Kindle. RB was munificent with photographs of stars and deep-sky objects in his handbook, but after all, the entire lot of pictures was medium- to low-quality black-and-white, which the Kindle adequately reproduces. And what the Kindle lacks in greyscale rendering, it more than makes up for in convenience by making the handbooks super portable. I still have my three printed volumes. I will never part with them. But I must admit that when I need them most, they are inconveniently far away at the bottom of my bookcase in another room. There's nothing like the close companionship of the Kindle, especially when it is chock full of our dear old friends such as Burnham's Celestial Handbook.Over the years I've used Burnham's like a typical reference. When I needed information about a celestial object, I'd see what RB had to say about it. But in Kindle format, I find myself actually reading the handbooks like a book. Imagine that! I feel even closer to RB when I read his meanderings on the Kindle. In fact, in the short time I've had Burnham's on my Kindle, I've read it much more than I read the printed volumes in three decades!Burnham's is multidimensional. It's arranged sensibly. It follows a few basic conventions set forth by the author, making the thousands of pages easy to navigate. The tables of grouped objects (stars, double-stars, deep-sky star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies) in each constellation are followed by interesting and insightful descriptions and illustrations of the brightest and best. RB's passion for organization and classification was seasoned by a love of literature and sky lore, which turns an otherwise dull science tome into a delightful fireside read. It's the stuff that used to keep amateur astronomers occupied on cloudy nights. Today, there are so many online informative and interactive resources that Burnham's lies sadly like a long-forgot childhood toy, under the bed with the dust bunnies.You can bring Burnham's back to life on your Kindle and read it for pleasure or for information. While astronomy is one of those constantly evolving sciences, there is something that will keep Burnham's around forever: the treasures of the night sky. For most of us, the path our eyes take through the universe is uncharted. We wander willy-nilly through the constellations, often not digging into them very deeply, and sometimes missing the obvious. Burnham's is a treasure map. As you fan through its pages, the glint of a galaxy or the sparkle of a star cluster will catch your eye and you'll say, "What? I didn't know there's a galaxy like that in Camelopardalis!" On your next night out with your telescope, you'll have something new to look for or take a picture of with your telescope and camera. And it doesn't matter if you can't "fan the pages" of a Kindle book. You can use the "Go To" menu and pick a random constellation. Explore it through the words, pictures, and personal experience of RB.The history of astronomy is as fascinating as the science itself. Much of RB's text references the observations and musings of astronomers from long ago. This also makes the Celestial Handbook a classic and timeless piece of literature. It really does hold up well to the test of time. I'm probably preaching to the choir.In short, if you are just beginning a journey to the stars, or if you veered off course a while ago and want to rekindle your interest in the wonders of astronomy, I highly recommend Burnham's. Download a free sky charting program for your PC, like "Cartes du Ciel," or use a smartphone app or planisphere to acquaint (or re-acquaint) yourself with the stars and constellations. Then put Burnham's on your Kindle, get yourself a telescope, and begin your treasure hunt in the sky.

Robert Burnham was a professional astronomer. What I have heard indicates that he kept an extensive file of thousands of 3 X 5 index cards where he jotted down his observing notes. He particularly noted interesting objects and he categorized them by constellation. These books are the compilation of that collection of index cards. The use of the constellations as an index is highly beneficial. It allows the observer to quickly review interesting objects within a particular constellation without jumping around through a reference book based on a less convenient indexing scheme. Mr. Burnham was very knowledgeable about the history and cultural heritage of the celestial objects that he cataloged. He included a great deal of that background within these books. He routinely cites the observational history of significant objects. His style is very readable even if the extensive nature of his citations is comprehensive. The book set would be beneficial for amateur astronomers of any skill level. The historical and cultural background information is interesting enough that it may even appeal to non-astronomers. I highly recommend this book set. It even makes for interesting reading on cloudy nights.

In spite of it's copyright dating back to the 50s and 70s (Vol.1), it's introduction for young astronomers remains relevant and eminently informative Even though I have owned the three volume work for just a few weeks, I find its commentaries on the various constellations and its components invaluable information. So far I even purchased Vol. 1 for my smartphone, just not happy that I can't zip to a particular constellation from the table of contents. You either have to try to interpolate your way there, or slug your way through page by page. Once there, though, you can Bookmark the page for future reference. All in all, so glad it is still available for us newbies. This is a treasure of information for all serious students of the heavens.

Although a little dated, this work for me brings the night sky to life. Organized by constellation, Burnham describes in wonderful detail and with a little humor all the notable celestial objects to be found. Great bedtime reading and very helpful when planning viewing sessions. The only thing I don't like about the book is the horrible typeface but this is just a reflection of when it was printed.
