Since my seemingly perfectly healthy 21-year-old son collapsed and died on 11/2/13 from what we later found was lymphocytic myocarditis, I have been reading nonstop books about the afterlife. It was something I never gave much thought to before and was content to wait and find out when my time came, but losing my precious and amazing son changed all that. I now have to know I will be with him again someday, so I read everything I can on the subject. I had learned about Bob Olson on a Google search and ordered his book as soon as it was available. I have to say it is the best book I have read yet on this subject and gave me answers I hadn't found anywhere else. One of my biggest questions was regarding the circumstances surrounding my son's sudden passing, which could have been scripted in a Hollywood movie. This book gave me some understanding of the forces at work that day that I will never believe were just lucky coincidences that helped me survive the most heartbreaking time of my life, and I'm very grateful to Bob Olson for sharing his vast research in this book. My son was a brilliant young man and a writer, and in his poetry he seemed to prophesize his early death, which now I firmly believe his spirit knew. I'm not to the knowing stage yet but hope with all my heart to be there soon, and I thank Bob Olson for helping me to get there!

I was in the middle of an existential crisis when I came across Olson's name and some of this works. This book not only provided his philosophical beliefs regarding the purpose of our physical lives, but also provided what I believe is the closest thing to a valid and reliable qualitative research study regarding the spiritual world to which we all return. I realize the content of this book is not for everyone. However, if you're struggling questions such as "Why Am I Here?", "How Can I Reconcile my Religious Beliefs with My Scientific Knowledge", I believe you will love this book as much as I.

I just finished reading Bob’s new book on the Afterlife and give it an A+++. The information is so intriguing; I stayed up one night devouring chapter after chapter. It was too good to put down. Of course, based on the quality of the interviews I’ve watched Bob conduct on Afterlifetv.com, how could his book be anything but wonderful, personable, highly readable, down to earth and thorough.Up until now, when it came to the Afterlife, we only had books that contain a person’s opinion, an organization’s philosophy or a particular religion’s belief system. Bob takes a different approach. The answers in his book are based on his personal experiences in thousands of readings and the personal experiences of the mediums he’s interviewed. It’s crazy how good this book is. I frequently found myself saying, “I always wondered about that” or “I never even considered that”.Bob’s new book will be at the top of the bibliography I hand out to clients who want more information on metaphysics. I definitely feel this book is a MUST READ.

I haven't finished reading yet, so the jury is still out. Maybe it's not fair to review it yet. I'll update later, if necessary. But something is really bothering me. What he writes about "free will", and our "pre-birth" choices our souls make for what experiences were going to have. He says a soul might have been a shooter in a past life, so now it wants to be a shooting victim in the next life to learn compassion for his past victims? To know what it feels like to die that way? (Are you frigging serious??). So, I have Z few questions about that..1. Why would a soul (the first shooter to ever exist) choose to murder people in his next life, to begin with?2. Are you telling me the school children of Sandy Hook Elementary were all murdering shooters in their past lives, and were sent here for the sole purpose of finding out what it would be like to be shot to death?? Or all those people on Vegas? This one guy was compelled to shoot all of them, because THEY all shot people in their past lives? (So, wouldn't that actually make the shooter the "victim", then, if these were all "pre-birth" choices made by the victims to die this way?)I'm sorry, but I don't get what he's saying here. Which came first? The shooter or the egg?

This book was disappointing. Because of the title, I expected the author to have conducted some research himself, even if it was qualitative research like interviewing subjects who had experienced NDEs or other such experiences. Instead, his "research" came from going to various mediums and psychics. The information presented was pretty basic, especially if you've read books on this subject before.

I have read a wide variety of books, from psychological texts (Learned Optimism by Dr. Martin Seligman) to practical guides (Loving What Is by Byron Katie, The Four Agreements and The Fifth Agreement by Don Miguel Ruiz, and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle) to doctors' experiences which transcend consciousness (Stroke of Insight by Dr. Jill Bolte-Taylor and Proof of Heaven by Dr. Even Alexander) to those concerning near death experiences (Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and Dr. Raymond Moody) and past life regressions (Many Lives, Many Masters by Dr. Brian Weiss) to the esoteric (Journey/Destiny of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton, Your Soul's Plan by Robert Schwartz, and Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav). When this book was recommended to me, I was pleasantly surprised to find much of what I had read and experienced (I have participated in a workshop with Dr. Brian Weiss) summarized in one book. This is an excellent overview and, as the author notes at the end, is as much about life as death or the afterlife. This book and the sources upon which it relies provide a broader view of our existence, and in so doing, provide a context for living. I recommend this book and also recommend reading his sources, so that you can draw your own conclusions and not merely rely on his.
